#Unable to add Matter device

Hi, I recently setup a raspberry pi with the HA operating system and got a SLZB-07 flashed with OpenThread (RPC) that I'm trying to use to connect some Inovelli light switches. Whenever I try to add the device from my iPhone I get "Unable to Add Accessory". Where could I look to see more info about what the problem is?

Have you installed the OpenThread Border Router add-on and configured that as well as the Matter add-on?

rocky spear
#

Yup!

novel sky
#

And have you synced the Thread credentials to your phone?

rocky spear
#

Yup!

#

But let me try it again

novel sky
#

Well.. Step 2 might be one point of failure as well (configuring the Thread integration)

I was originally using an apple tv but basically after some period of time, all devices would be unreachable (despite one of them being in the same room)

#

I've gone through the the steps and will try pairing again

#

Same issue 😦

novel sky
#

Do you have an Apple phone or an Android?

rocky spear
#

iPhone

novel sky
#

Have you joined the Thread networks?

rocky spear
#

Something that is a little confusing is I see two thread credentials here

You can add the HA OTBR to the Apple Thread network to form a joint network.

rocky spear
#

I've currently unplugged the Apple TV and am trying to just use OTBR

#

The Apple TV wasn't reliable and I could not figure out what was going wrong

#

There are no other networks showing up

#

Which I understand to be expected

novel sky
#

Maybe someone else has a better idea. šŸ¤”

rocky spear
#

Is there some logging that would maybe show pairing events?

#

like, why specifically couldn't this device be paired?

novel sky
#

The add-on logs of the Matter server or OTBR might show something.

rocky spear
#

I enabled debug logging but I don't know what any of it means...

novel sky
#

Maybe one of the experts chimes in later.

rocky spear
#

I pray for experts then!

novel sky
rocky spear
#

I actually can't remove them. One will always remain

#

Is there a way I can make a brand new thread network?

#

maybe deconflict the name?

novel sky
#

You can delete the OTBR add-on and the Thread related integrations.
Re-installing those should create a new one.

rocky spear
#

I'll try that

#

The network name didn't change

#

is there a way to configure that?

novel sky
#

Not to my knowledge. But take that with a grain of salt.

rocky spear
#

Yeah, very sad, this just doesn't work 😦

rocky spear
#

Do experts peruse these threads?

novel sky
#

Some look into this channel, yes.

rocky spear
#

Are there other places I should go looking if this thread goes unnoticed?

Some followup here. I noticed some warnings about duplicate configs started showing up when I tried using a slzb-06. So after seeing that, I ended up completely reinstalling HAOA (Home Assistant Operating System) on my Raspberry PI (since there's no way to do a factory reset) and after getting everything setup, I'm able to pair devices without issue

#

I wonder if deleting devices actually leaves some config data around that prevents them from being reintroduced

novel sky
#

I'm glad you were able to get it working in the end. šŸ‘

rocky spear
#

Alas, the problem has come back

#

When adding a new light switch

rocky spear
#

I actually think that by having the Apple TV plugged in, I’m unable to add new thread devices

novel sky
#

Does it work when it isn't?

rocky spear
#

Yeah, I went and unplugged my Apple TV and then was able to add the device, I could then plug the Apple TV back in for full homekit support

I'm having the same message when trying to commission Matter devices to my HA Yellow. The existing devices are functional, but I can't get anything new to commission. My HA is my border router, also using iPhone to commission. Just trying to add a few Kasa plugs and nanoleaf bulbs. Very frustrating.

Tried android companion app too, different message. Unable to connect to device, something about the WiFi?

#

This all started after I changed routers, maybe I messed up a setting?
