Hi,

First off i want to use Ha OS + Frigate + a custom pc maybe I use a google coral or gpu you tell me. Frigate seems it's the best when it comes to human detection. and ignoring my dogs who are 90% of my outdoor footage 10% cars. I only want to get alearted and save video when humans are in the pictures

  1. I have Dahua - XVR1B08-I analog right now it does support remote viewing and 1 ip camera but i only use 8 channel analog camera.
I hate this junk called Dahua - XVR1B08-I always missing in action false alerts, someone broke into my place while I was away took m hours to go through 1tb of ssd. still did not find the footage of the breakin .

  2. my dvr ( Dahua - XVR1B08-I ) setup is running 24/7 Has 1 week save on a 1tb ssd.

  3. Camera: it keeps showing me highlights of my dog who sleep through the breakin, it was also raining so the camera's had no chance to see. too many moving things(rain droplets). Those are the cameras I don't know the model or name. check the image it came as a full kit. its the default built 2mp.

3.1 Which $50 camera should I add to my setup only need one for the main gate. I will keep the other 8 2mp low-end cameras that came with the Dahua kit.

4.I want to use the dvr only as a way to get the analog 8 channel video and feed everything to HA. no storage or saving of recording on dvr i want everything to be done by HA + frigate on my custom pc.

5.Will HA override Dahua - XVR1B08-I and store all live 24//7 recordings on my custom pc with two ssd and use frigate for human detection?

6.What should I buy? google coral tpu or GPU(I can get a 1080 8gb or 1650 4gb or make recommendations that will work for 8 - 10 cameras) which is best right now.

7.What is the minimum custom pc build I should get? I can get parts easy. any recommendations? cpu, ram,mb etc?

  1. I currently have 1tb ssf for the custom build Should I upgrade that and get more storage HHD?

Forgive me, I hope I didn't shoot up in the air too much with my explanation or what I want as the final product.

In summary.

Dahua - XVR1B08-I is used to get the 8ch analog live feed >
my custom pc using HA + Frigate uses that feed from dvr. and the new 1 ip camera I buy on top making it 9 cameras in total (8 analog, 1 ip ) >
google coral or gpu base on recommendations from the community will tell me if it's a huma or not. if its a human save that recording to my storage 2 hhd (slave) otherwise keep the live 24/7 recording on and save everything to storage 1 (ssd master). Which will be store for 1 week and replacded and so on.

Just to clarify this is for outdoor setup.

# glossy rover if your just looking at doing object detection then I would stick with coral TPU...

I'm surprised you went with gpu over tpu, I must not understand yet what tpu is used for please explain if two can over power a 1080 8gb, I thought gtx 8gb can handle anything even tho it's old and uses alot of power...
It should be checking all the time I don't want criminals to get skipped by a few secs.

Wait what else would I use the gpu for outside of detection. does HA+frigate have something else cool I could use the gpu for Still kinda new to this diy/HA setup I could have missed something when reading up on the topic.

Seems like x2 tpu gonna win this one

figate does a bit of transcoding but thats easily done on cpu integrated graphics accelration

#

but it was more if you planned to use the box for other stuff that might want gpu aceleration like voice/llm etc... but in any case i would still recomend tpu's for object detection

#

you can get dual tpu cards but they wont work in all machines/slots. depending on your setup usb ones are usually the easiest to get working from what i have heard. i use a single tpu card inside a mini pc but i only need 1 and i am pretty sure the slot wouldnt take a dual tpu card anyway

oh anything semi modern really.

#

an n100 will probably handle it tbh

#

if going for mainline cpu's then getting something newer will help it be more power efficient

I did think about that but my fear is What if I need more storage eg(2 or 3 hhd) how it only has sata one port. maybe I'm wrong.
also with minipc how will I add the tpu? does the minipc support x m2 slots.

I could go with the usb but is usb reliable for frigate?
how does it work for tpu's performance wise(HA+frigate) pci vs usb slot

Think I’m gonna go with the module route. More reliable vs usb.

Okay so I’m lost here, google coral has two versions single and dual for sale

# glossy rover usb is absolutly fine for TPU's

If i buy

Coral M.2 Accelerator with Dual Edge TPU 8 bit Module G650-06076-01

Do i still need to buy two dual edge tpu’s

The dual module already comes with two tpu’s from factory right? Vs usb i have to buy two usb tpu.

Price is also X4 for usb tpu.

If i buy x2 google coral dual edge tpu still super cheap based on facebook marketplace

do you mean that within the x1 dual edge only half the tpu is picked up
this happens quite frequently. it totally depends on how the motherboard is wired and configured

#

if the board doesnt have the pcie lanes wired to the slot it wont work correctly.

I have everything now. Only thing missing is upgrading 1 ip camera

it really depends on what features you need. its going to depend on your use case

Thanks @glossy rover I ended up with dell 5080 minipc it was the cheapest and the i5 10500T + coral dual edge should help long term
