#Migrating Z-Wave dongles - Z-Wave JS or ZUI?

I am migrating from a 500 to an 800 series stick and am expecting to redo my ZWave network. Since I am starting from scratch, I have endless flexibility which brings my most basic question. I am currently running Z-Wave JS. Should I migrate to ZUI? I am learning towards yes. Is there any reason why i shouldn't do that?

As an aside, I am currently running ZJS and ZUI on the HAOS instance on different dongles for testing. (The integration is tied to ZJS on my 500 series, and ZUI is running with the new 800 dongle in preparation for the migration.)

TIA!

I updated from a 500 to an 800 using z-wave js-ui...

I have an old 500 series an HUSBZB1. Is that what you had? You cannot download the NVRAM unless you update the firmware in a very manual way.

I had an old aeotec

Well, you could probably update the firmware. Unfortunately doing that with mine required disassemble and shorting some pins while doing stuff. It sounded overly complex and error prone.

I used the aeotec tool to download it. Check that post in case you can get something from it...

#

Worst case, the dongle fries, and you do start over, right?

#

If you have lots of stuff, start over is no bueno...

I don't have much like 13 devices.

#

With only 13 devices, I was thinking that it would just be easier to start over.... Your point is a good one though.

#

It would also simplify the migration to ZUI

FOrget it, I see it sprry

Got it. The thing is that Aeotec provides a path to new firmware. Not so much the HUSBZB-1.

#

New firmware that supports nvram backup. Mine doesn't have this.

I had not updated it recently. I did update it years ago though. I was able to use the aeotec tool to get the file though, that may be an issue. No idea.

Yes, you cannot update the HUSBZB1 at all which creates the problem. Painfully old firmware
