Hey everyone!
I'm currently renovating my house and about to start electrical wiring. I haven't finalized the smart home setup yet, but I'm planning a Modbus RTU and decentralized home automation system.

Goals:
Lighting control
Environmental sensors
Security sensors
Horns/Alarms

Current Idea:
Logic Machine 2 in the main junction box
Mini junction boxes per room with Waveshare relays + AI/DI input modules

Concerns:
Waveshare seems more hobby-grade, not super reliable
No latching relays
Need 2 modules per room (relay + input)

Question:
Can anyone recommend more reliable alternatives for a modular, decentralized Modbus setup?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

I'm in the exactly same situation as yourself.
Though i was planning on sticking with rs485 only. And same as you I can't seem to find anything other than waveshare 4-8x relay modules. Every other alternative is skewed into one or other closed off proprietary standard (also hella expensive)....
I'm currently contemplating the idea to copy a waveshare modules but replace everything with higher quality components (finder relays etc etc)
So far i haven't found any alternatives....

Waveshare latching relays, waveshare DI DO modules, and may be AI AO module one per floor also required. And this makes about 10 15 waveshare modules. Seems too complicated to wire all of them through rs485 🤢 at lease controller may fail to manage them.
