Hey everyone, I just had a really cool idea, and I have no clue how to do it.

Background: I have a pool in my backyard and I want a way to play music easily. I want to use music assistant

So my idea is as follows (most likely a pi) mounted with a touchscreen that allows people to select music off of it and play it ONLY ON THAT DEVICE (preferably).

The hard part for me is the Touchscreen and housing, I don’t know how to code and I don’t know how do model things (i can use tinker cad lol) Hoping that there are some cool people here that geek out and can help me out

could do something like this
then you just need a monitor/tv to display the UI and a speaker setup thats music assistant compatable.
and people "bring their own device" to interact

People will interact with it, I plan for it to be mounted in the pump house. I should probably add that I want to be able to control the power from HA. it will be connected to an AMP via AUX to output the sound

do you have anything set up already? speakers etc...? or are you starting from scratch?

#

also does it need to be water/weather proof to some extent?

Yea I got the speakers and amp, the panel will be mounted inside, the pump house gets VERY hot up to 90F

if your happy with just the music assistant front end. then recently support for "play on this device" was added to it. so you could just use a rpi and a web browser

yea that is probably what I will do. Do you have any ideas for hardware?

#

Thoughts on a tablet running fully kiosk???

tribal vigil

tablet and fully kiosk would work but i dont think its a good idea in this case

short sinew
#

yea, both cost and temperature wise im guessing

tribal vigil
#

if the tablet has a battery and your putting it in a hot and humid enviroment...

short sinew
#

yeaaaaa

tribal vigil
#

anything you put in there is likely to suffer from those issues its just a battery will be more violent when it has the problems

#

you could get something more rated for that enviroment but its going to cost more

ya i dont want to spend a bunch of money

I think you are better off setting up a way of linking your speakers to music assistant and then just using a tablet that can be passed around to play music to that speaker but not nessasarily fixed in the pump room

It's a bit on the pricey side, not horrible, but raspi makes a 7" touchscreen made for a Pi, fits right inside...

Thoughts??

I don't think hot and humid is a problem with that PI display. I have a couple. It would have to be out of direct rain or snow though.

yeah its ip65 so something like that might be okay

And you may want to solder instead of dupont connectors.

#

There are like 4 wires for the touch to work

if you want to do it on the cheap you could use a VPE to connect your amp to home/music assistant
then a cheap tablet running fully kiosk to access music assistant frontend.
can then just bring the tablet out for pool parties.

I might do the display i found cause it is so simple, I have no experience in this at all so yea

I have one of these hanging in my utility room to monitor a heating system. It's REAL nice not having to get out my phone to look at status, touch the panel on the wall and it tells you the whats-ats. That PI also is what's monoitoring with MQTT as well as displaying HA page.
