Is it possible to add Nest Protect 2 to HA, but without cloud integration? As I understand not, because it demands token to google cloud, so the integration go through cloud. Can someone confirm / decline?

If is not possible, then what will happen if lost Internet connection? HA integration lost connection to google cloud, so break. Alternatively after integrate through google cloud, then HA connect to Nest locally and cloud is not needed anymore.

If you already have Nest Protects, you can try it (I'd assume, that the custom integration does not provide local communication - thus no communication to HA without cloud connection). If you don't have them, you are late to the game. Google is phasing out Nest Protects and in many countries you cannot even buy them anymore from Google.

I don't. I ask because I am thinking to buy vs Aquara smoke detector or something else.

Oh, I missed that information. Altough there are avilable in my country.

Why they do it? New version? no more detectors? any device?

Not sure if I understand this correctly. They withdraw, because they have agreement with First Alert, so First Alert will make such devices from now?

First Alert will sell Google Home compatible smoke/CO detectors in the US and Canada soon.
If those will be compatible with the Nest Protect custom integration remains to be seen.
