Hi there! I'm not unsure if this question belongs in #1284966915055288530 or #1284966353798697001. I'm sorry if its in the wrong spot.

I just built an enclosure for my Voice PE and hooked up two 5 W speakers through the 3.5mm jack. They produce a faint hiss whenever the PE is idle. Is there a way to have the PE automatically mute its output when it’s not active?

Does "mute" remove the "hiss"?

It does.

When I turn the dial up one click to unmute, it immediately starts hissing. Ideally, I’d like to either automate the unmute/volume adjustment before playback or update the ESPHome YAML so it stays muted when idle.

I do have the same issue

I tried it with 2 different speakers,
Cheap & more expensive ones

Powered via power bank & wall outlet

i noticed that the hiss is variable between different power sources. Also check if hiss is less when plugging it into wallsocket without any other equipment plugged into it. Dont think its speaker related..

Will be amazing, if it works - but if muting media player programmatically is removing the noise - most likely it's not the ground loop, but some amp base noise...

Well, i tried my Koala and Satellite1 with external battery-powered speaker (JBL) - turned volume to max everywhere, and no noise at all...

Reporting back now that I've tried the ground isolator.... It helped but the hiss is still present.

It's less noticeable now and probably won't drive me insane.
