Hello everybody,
I recently got really into working with voice assistants in HA. I do own a Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition, but I am running into big problems with its' wake-word detection. It only works like 1 out of 10 times... no matter what wake-word I choose, no matter if its me who says the wake-word or my significant other. I did debug it and listen to the sound samples... they are pretty good, low noise... so, its not the quality itself it seems.

I really want to have voice assistants in HA as it brings so much to the table and I already implemented some usefull stuff, but the HA VPE is just very unreliable. I wonder if there are any alternatives that are more reliable with wake word detection. Thanks in advance

Maybe it's defective unit, but in general VPE has pretty good wake word engine. I'm using same Microwakeword on Koala/Respeaker satellite, and it works pretty good.

so, koala/respeaker sattelite has no advantage over the HAVPE?

Well, I've added some things that community asked. Like local alarm, events for TTS and timers... Small convenience.
But it's based on PE firmware, and XMOS chip is the same. For me it works great, but I didn't try PE (only SAT1 from FutureProofHomes).

How far away are you from the PE? I only get consistent results within about 6 feet and then it drops off pretty quickly. It also does the best with non-accented english.

My Respeaker Lite is on par with the VoicePE, i operate them from within 7ft max without yelling. The only thing on both devices is that they have some difficulties when background noise is to loud.

With the „Hey Mycroft“ wake word it works better than the other words. Not flawlessly, but a lot better. I might be able to live with this for now and hope it will still improve down the line
