I got an update notification for the HA Yellow Zigbee radio a couple days ago, so I tried to apply the update last night. Something must have gone terribly wrong. All my automations disappeared and my zigbee radio doesn't seem to work.

The radio firmware update is still available, but when I try to apply it I get the message "Failed to perform the action update/install. Failed to flash firmware".

I did a factory reset and restored from a backup, but it ended up in the same state.

I'm guessing the update failed and left the firmware in a borken state. Is there some other way to re-flash the firmware? Any other suggestions?

This might help you:

  • Deactivate ZHA on the integrations Page
  • Install the Silicon Labs Flasher add-on
  • Go to the add-on's settings, set it to /dev/ttyAMA1 and save the changes
  • Start the add-on and observe the progress on the logs page (it should finish with code 0)
  • When it is finished and the add-on stopped: reactivate ZHA on the integrations page

Wow! Thanks for the quick response. The only step you missed is a reboot. Now my radio seems to be working, it's showing all my zigbee devices, but they've lost their custom names. All my automations are back, but most of them are broken, probably because the zigbee devices they should be connected to don't have the right name. Do you think another factory reset and restore would give them the right names again? Failing that I suppose I could probably figure out the right name for everything and rename them manually.

I think so. After restoring a (previously working) backup another full reboot is needed. And it might need some time for sensors to come back online.
