Hi,

I have successfully set-up the Alexa Skill to expose HA entities, and I am controlling basic functionality using my Alexa pucks around the house. I have two main complaints that I am wondering if anyone else struggles with:

  1. I feel like there's not a two-way communication. Alexa sends the signal to "turn off" and if it doesn't, it still seems to think that it has.
  2. I've just set-up OpenAI Conversation/Whisper/Piper Voice Assistant pipeline, and I am wondering if there is anyway to integrate this with my Alexa pucks

Kindly,
Austin

Alexa is getting worse in terms of supporting third-party skills. And no, there's no way to use Alexa as voice assistant in HA

I mean, I was successfully able to expose local HA devices to Alex - is it too much of a stretch to think that somehow the voice assistant could be exposed somehow?

Yes, it's too much. It's completely different technology, and the core functionality of that (getting any information from Alexa itself) is blocked.

thanks for the response - any recommendations on slowly replacing my alexa pucks with something a bit more open source? I run a mostly wifi home assistant network

Voice PE, Koala/Respeaker satellite, FutureProofHomes Satellite1. All have their own advantages. 🙂
