#Location dashboard storage location -> Resolved

system - backups - restore backup?
You want me to restore my entire backup... That's a possibility but I thought only to restore my dashboard because all other items are fine
From the old message boards: #frontend-archived message
There's no file versioning in HA. If you saved over it, the previous data is gone. But, you may be able to open a backup file and find it in there. The backups are just compressed files. (I had to do that once. Was editing dashboard with two windows open; saved the wrong one but was able to recover most of the lost data from the backup.)
Restoring a full backup isn't an option because I had the configuration error a week before I upgraded yesterday. So I've put back my backup from yesterday to have all my history but so far my old dashboard is gone. I unpacked the backup zip file and searched for 'dashboard' but can't find any file. Curious how the dashboard only can be restored....
try searching for lovelace. I forget where I found it but it was in there somewhere. I have my backup downloading right now so I can take a look, too.
No luck, searching on the forum and found https://community.home-assistant.io/t/where-are-dashboards-stored-in-backup/546066/3 . Seems to be a hidden folder but so far not able to found it
There should be a hidden folder .storage, meaning it is by default greyscaled but I don't have or see this folder
I'm searching in the data folder, by the way
you have to navigate to the .storage folder; type it in the address (hence being hidden)
No .storagefolder.... I'm on a Mac and using Samba Share. Also my backup file, when unpacked doesn't has this folder
Thanks, found the folder and indeed this contains the lovelace source. Somehow, when using HA, the old dashboard is restored
No idea why it restored after a while
It's in there. I just downloaded my full backup. Opened the file, opened the homeassistant.tar, then the data folder. .storage was visible. (I didn't uncompress; it's still compressed and I'm using Windows Explorer to navigate.)
So, everything is good now?
I'm on Mac, I believe has something to do with view options.... I couldn't see the .storage folder at all. When hidden, it should be listed and greyscaled. But, indeed, anyway, problem resolved automatically... Weird, but learned for the future. THANKS!
Well, that's good to hear because I wasn't looking forward to telling you the next step in the recovery process: converting the JSON file to YAML...
Thanks anyway, highly appreciated. Have a good day!
