#Voice Assistant PE - cannot connect to wifi
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Is it that fancy WiFi with 2.4 and 5 GHz together? If so, try turning off 5 GHz on the AP while connecting.
hrmm.. ok.. i can try that..
hrmm.. assuming it will let me.. I dunno if this ap will allow that
yeah.. I can't turn it off on this one..
you can also try connecting to your pc, flashing firmware using the web tool and this will allow you to insert wifi creds with the tool. instead of the BLE onboarding. documentation here
this may or may not help but it gives a different setup option and rules out some stuff.
and we have a FF user ๐
we have a "don't own a windows machine" user too.. ๐
if its any consolation i believe complaints have been registered with mozilla
crap.. maybe my wife's laptop has chrome.. guess ill go find out

So it can see the wifi, it looks the same as the output I see on any other esphome device
but I canot connect to it
can you check your dhcp table and see if it actually has been able to connect at some point?
I did, nothing for that mac addr, assuming it's the mac on the back of the device on the sticker
i also tried updating the firmware to latest and trying again, no love
I've tried both garblednet and garblednet-newha (whic is my ha device only network)
[21:29:56][W][wifi_esp32:705]: Event: Disconnected ssid='garblednet' reason='Probe Request Unsuccessful'
this seems to be how it always ends
it looks like its just not liking your wifi netowrk, seperating or disabling networks so there is only 2.4 is first thought,
do you have any other networks you can test with? pehraps temp "hotspot" from phone? just something to test with?
I guess i can try a hotspot.. will have to see if it lets me
if I do a hotspot it will be connected to my raw internet via the phone
Then it won't be able to connect to HA
omg, i just did it like the 20th time and it connected i think.. wth
maybe.. can't figure out if its working or not now
nope. it won't talk to my wifi. nothing I do will fix it. i can get it to connect to a useless phone hotspot. I have doznes of esphome devices, but this thing is a brick. what a waste of $$
even if i disabled 5ghz long enough to get it connected, it will never reconnect after I re-enable it, and then I'd have to reconfigure my entire network for one device
sigh
That's a bummer, I hear it for the first time...
I personally have separate 2.4 network for IoT, but for those with same name it always helped to switch 5 off for connection...
Yeah, I don't get it. I can get all kinds of ancient devices to talk to my wifi. 8266's work just fine too.
Yeah. If i setup a brand new AP with only 2.4 it works.. thats.. wacky..
I wonder if I turn on 5 if it will disconnect then
Apparently I need a separate network just for this one device. Amazing.
It conected as ESPhome, but never launched the wizard..... i guess I have to do everything by hand?
I'm curious if something like Koala satellite will work for you. If casual esp32s3 will work, then it must be hardware problem - in that case Koala software, built on PE base, shouldn't be a show-stopper...
i haven't tried the net esp32S3's tbh
new
mine are all older.. maybe the s3's are more fiddly
oh i see, you mean total reflash.. hrmmm
I'm trying to get wyoming running, but it won't discover the addons for piper and whisper.. sigh.
INFO:main:Ready
[08:08:45] INFO: Successfully send discovery information to Home Assistant.
s6-rc: info: service discovery successfully started
but then nothing in the logs for core.. and no disovery of the addon
once the device is on home assistant on the device page you should be able to launch the voice setup if it didnt auto start
yeah.. had to manually deinstall and then reinstall the addons one by one to get them to show up in discovery
yeah, well I have a bunch of really old devices that need that...
going to try mixed and see if it breaks my whole network
no no not wps
WPA first version?
yeah
It shouldn't be a problem
I found an issue in github, someone else reported
sec
FYI, it also needed to be regressed to FW version 24.12.3 to connect to my Wifi network (reported in https://github.com/esphome/home-assistant-voice-pe/issues/327), hence the "bad feeling about this".
(from another post)
apparently regressing the fw works for him, he mentions he "fixed it locally" somehow.. not clear how
