Hi there ๐
I need some very specific advice from someone who understands SCSI and the UASP problematic.
I've seen many contradicting opinions (or at least the passage of time made them contradictory retroactively).
Some claim UASP will unlock a serious performance increase, some claim UASP will shatter performance, some differentiate between correctly and incorrectly implemented protocols... I don't know what's true. I'm trying to make an informed purchase for my Pi4 that I also want to turn into a lightweight NAS, which is why I don't want to limit the transfer speeds by purchasing the wrong adapter. In which cases does HAOS even support UASP or is it disabled generally to avoid issues?
Can anyone recommend an adapter (or case) with a proper UASP implementation confirmed working under HAOS? (I'm in EU/GER)

if your using a rpi your network its going to be a bottleneck long belong anything like this would make a difference
Oh ok so my network will bottleneck my NAS plans anyway, got it.
But I should still be able to make use of a faster drive inside HA, no? Loading graphs, booting, upgrading...
This user says: ...lower the potential max throughput of a disk of about 50%, but given the speed of the USB3 bus of a PI, rather 20%. (https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/issues/1743#issuecomment-1032915636)
which still sounds like a lot
any standard ssd/usb adaptor is going to be fine and again will not be your bottleneck on a rpi4
ah okay, thanks for your advice. ๐ Do you mind explaining why they make such a fuss about it in the forums then?
because people on the internet will argue about anything
i am sure there are cases where these thing of things matter but this is not one of them
UASP ("USB Attached SCSI Protocol") helps USB 3.0 devices transfer data much faster than older USB protocols. What does this mean for the #RaspberryPi 4? Well, watch the video to find out how much faster #UASP makes drives, and how to check if your USB storage supports this speedy feature.

for home assistant and some basic file serving it makes no practical difference.
