Hello,
I'm looking for a device to control/limit the power send to a plug. The application is to inject only unused solar production in my e-car.
For example, when charging, my car request 1.8 Kw. If I have only 1 Kw of unsed solar, I'd like to inject this in the car plug and only this, so that it won't ask grid network for the missing .8 Kw.
So if this kind of device exist, I'm a quite interested !

cars usually have min charge currents. they don't trickle charge
if you give it below its min current then it will not charge
oh so I need to check this before. But if it's ok for have at least 500W for example, does a device as I was looking for exist ?
in theory you could make such a device but there is probably not an off the shelf product for this kind of thing. you might find a variable current limiting transformer as an industrial product but it wont be cheap
most cars/ev chargers have the ability to limit charging speed but usually the min is about 6a at 230v AC
what most people do is:
track your solar production and then only start charging the car when solar production is above the min
this would basically be something you'd have to tell the car about... the "charger" is basically just a wall outlet with tiny chip that can tell the car how much current it can safely draw before the outlet melts. On a hardware level, the car has to be able to dynamically reduce the charging current, but impossible to tell if that's exposed
the general way to limit current (in like an analogue / non-EV world) is to reduce voltage when the current gets near your set limit. When you do that to the charging circuitry in a car, the car will most likely just assume you have a power failure in your house and shut off completely
there is some communication, a charger can set the limit
just seen an option on my car to reduce CA power but it's only a on/off params. Need to check this
my charger can set beween 6a and 32a
the car will probably pull as much as the charger says it can
ty both for help. I can't use wallbox. there is too many constraints in my country (I'm not rich enough to install the good one)
for the super basic standard sockt chargers then you are going to struggle to set limits. a high power relay to switch it on/off when solar production is high enough is probably the best option
the wallbox can't actually do any limiting of its own. It can tell the car to "please" limit itself to X amount of amps, a cool one like Micheals can change that limit dynamically over a high range. But depending on your particular car, you may be able to ask the car to limit itself directly via some app/API
