#Looking for new host (maybe?) for HA

I currently have a RPI 4 32 bit.

ESP seems to have an upgrade now that requires a 64 bit architecture.

I have a Synology device that has x86_64. Should I consider migrating HA to my synology, Buy a new RPI or something else?

Should I worry about upgrading at all? I just started giving into ESP and I plan to do more with it but what I have so far is pretty basic.

Thoughts?

the rpi4 supports 64 bit. you should be able to switch over to a 64bit setup

More thoughts, I have ran HA in a VM before and there was some annoyances with it. the rpi has been super solid.

#

@warm garnet is this a reinstall?

What annoyances? I consider it the best way to run things.

a VM is good but i would only recommend doing it with a proper hypervisor though

@warm garnet Yeah I was just using virtual box headless and not esx or anything

proxmox is what i would recomend

when I run uname -m it says armv71 which I thought would not work?

for 64 bit

the rpi4 is definetly 64bit. it may show strange things if your using 32bit version of os though

Not sure if cat /proc/cpuinfo is useful here.

yeah it must just show up as arm7 if your using it in 32bit "mode"

ah

ok

let me try a reinstall, do you know if I can restore my config if I do that?

warm garnet

I would suggest making a backup of your HA install.
reimage your system with fresh haos 64 bit and restore

okay

warm garnet

yup the backup system saves all your config and history independant of install type

long term i do recomend moving away from a rpi though. mini pc has alot of benifits. my thoughts on hardware are HERE. but definetly after reimaging and restoring you should be fine and esphome will work just fine
