#Energy - Battery Charge shows up as negative

When the battery charges from any source, the consumption (which is what it is at the point) is shown as being negative on the chart. This seems counter-intuitive to me. When I charge the battery from cheap-rate over night, this shows up as consumption in my Octopus (utility provider) data so why is it negative in the Energy usage chart?
If I create a sensor that multiplies the battery charge by -1 then the Energy Config tells me that this is a negative value and it is expecting a positive value.
If I use the battery charge entity as an Individual device to track then it also shows up here as negative consumption... it really doesn't make sense.
