Trying to sort out a smart outlet for my laundry machine so I can automate it.

I just bought a SMLIGHT SLZB-07 and I'm hoping to try out more things zigbee(maybe matter/thread) related.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Here's my laundry machine currently (it's not the greatest)

Here's my laundry machine manual with electrical requirements (pg.4)

Will tag as resolved when solution found/made! :)

If it can be wifi then any Shelly clamp capable energy meter should work

+1 for a shelly with CT clamp

With clamps you mean these kind of devices right?

Not sure if tuya or sonoff have good enough alternatives for available

I'm honestly in a shared split home currently

#

so just trying to upset a landlord admitingly

#

so a front facing transparent, but safe outlet of some sort would be ideal

#

ie. something that doesn't go inside an outlet

#

which might make things impossible or tricky

You could also just diy this stuff into one of those outdoor connector boxes with a plug and socket on each end

#

At the risk of having to diy it, but with this kinda load you are in that territory either way

#

There are car charger smart plugs which may do more current but no idea if the sockets would match

hmmm. links? risk + diy + bad in the same sentence has me on-edge a little

#

:)

The risk is manageable for most people who have an idea on how to do electrical stuff
At least it wouldn't be that much worse than what China sometimes sends over

The clamp would be spliced in parallel to the passthrough to power itself with the clamp sitting on the hot cable of it

yeah power goes in and out (you split connection off to power the shelly itself) then have the clamp over the live connection

The black one kinda style I feel is alright, just check that you get one that can fit the stuff somewhat comfortable

#

And order some silicone to fix stuff into place, it probably doesn't hurt if it doesn't rattle so people don't get suspicious

#

Make sure to buy the right cable diameter & socket combination to match your appliance

#

Depending on your country there may be different ones

shelly = 39mm x 36mm x 17 mm

#

tight squeeze but might do it

#

do things get hot inside of it?

frozen island
#

Not really, it's just wires passing through and the Shelly which may pull about a watt

#

Id go with something larger because the clamp needs to fit properly and the cables aren't supposed to bend indefinitely

#

Also you just need one in and one out port

I'm not finding anything reputable at the moment

#

a lot of shelly products seem sold out in my area

You could order them through their site or Amazon. Depending on your region they may even have em in local hardware stores
