#Unlock Door with Face works... not wanted on the way out though!

Hopefully simple problem. After some hard work, got door unlock working with both fingerprint and face detect, using Unifi Protect G4 Doorbell Pro + Ai Port + Schlage Encode Plus lock. Face detect/unlock only takes a few seconds, seems to work really well so far.

When we leave, we usually press the "lock" button on the door lock keypad (long-running habit, easy enough). But now, since we're passing in front of the doorbell cam again on our way out, the door sees us and wants to unlock again. What's a good way to have the door unlock on face detect, but only when really wanted?

Thinking something like "if system detects that the lock button was actuated, pause face detect for a while". But then there's the old man problem - forgot my keys, forgot my wallet, my hat, my brain... Need to go right back inside. I guess I could just assume this is my "penalty box" moment and so I have to enter the door code to go immediately back in. Hmmm.

You could put a button on the inside. If you wish to lock after exiting, press the button on the inside rather than the lock button on the outside. The inside button press starts a X second period whereby the unlock automation is blocked from running, during which you should exit and close the door, after which the lock is locked.

At my house, my device would typically connect to the wifi first, as I’m coming up the driveway or in the garage etc. So HA marks that I’m “Home”. I wonder if the automation can trigger only within 5min of you switching from Away to Home. That way, when you’re home, it would never trigger, including on your way out

Do you have a contact sensor on the door? If so, you could update your automation to not trigger if the sensor had been changed to closed within X number of seconds.

If not a smartlock, put a magnet sensor on the door, and omit unlock if the door was opened the last 60s
