Looking for BT dongle (or ESP32) with the best range possible and cheapest at the same time.
Is it worth going into something with antenna?
Is it worth going into 5.0 or even 5.3?
Any good tips what to buy? I am in no hurry, so aliexpress is an option.
ps.: I can 3D print a box if needed.

if your looking for a device just to pick up BLE sensors then alot of people are using esp32's as bluetooth proxys. they get the signal and relay to home assistant by wifi.
this has its advantages as you can place multiple of them around the house to ensure coverage
you can also use them for other stuff too as it the nature of the esp32 🙂
it really depends on your use case though. if you want to be able to also use it for active connections then a usb adaptor is going to be a better option.

i don't think it matters, but io am not totally sure. there are probably edge cases where it would matter
