#History graph card shows a previous value forever rather than update, when metering plug is off

When I turn my Ikea Inspelning metering smart plug off, the history graph just shows the last known value until it updates again. I don't know if this is because it's reporting 0, or because it's not reporting anything, though on the smart plug's device page it does correctly report 0.0 W. The same problem exists in the history view.

Interestingly, when I deselect the other items from view, I am not able to even mouseover the erroneous "off" areas to get a tooltip, suggesting it does see it as missing data on some level.

I don't know if this is a problem with the card, with the plug or with my configuration.

#

The image is the history view for just the device, which does correctly show 0 W and lets me get the tooltip for it too, unlike the graph card and the history view I get from clicking the graph card

#

An extreme version shows up on my filtered version that I use to smooth the values, the flat red lines are just a lack of updates, but unlike the above, this error is already present in the history viewed directly via the helper

So long as the state is still 0, the graph will keep rendering 0.

#

Ideally the sensor would change to unavailable if it was offline.

limber obsidian
#

I don't think the sensor ever does go offline

ancient sierra
#

Oh ok

limber obsidian
#

Maybe this works

#

Hob should be at 0W for this

#

Without air fryer enabled in the graph, it won't even give me a tooltip for the stuck sections, it jumps to the nearest non-stuck

ancient sierra
#

Nothing is "stuck".

#

Sorry I think I'm not understanding you.

#

The graph just graphs what the sensor value is.
Is your issue with the graph, or with the sensor state itself?

limber obsidian
#

I don't know, but I am leaning towards the graph

#

The sensor state history viewed via the device page correctly shows 0W in between usages, when the smart plug is off, but the graph card as well as the history view accessed by clicking the graph card ">" refuse to update when the smart plug is off, instead showing the most recent value

ancient sierra
#

Hmm I'm not sure I believe that.

#

I've never seen the graph not accurately showing the state of the sensor.

#

Are you graphing that 0W sensor, or some derived/filtered version of it?

limber obsidian
#

I tried to get as close to the time from the image above as possible, you can see it's different

ancient sierra
#

I don't know what this is showing me.

limber obsidian
#

It's showing that the values differ between the two

ancient sierra
#

And?

limber obsidian
#

It's the same entity

#

at the same time

#

or as close as I could get it

#

By the way, does "6 hours ago" mean it last changed 6 hours ago or that it was last received 6 hours ago? I am thinking changed

ancient sierra
#

That would be the last state change. (The time that it changed to 0 from non-0)

limber obsidian
ancient sierra
#

We don't tell you when it was received.

#

You're comparing with this graph?

limber obsidian
#

Yeah, that graph shows correct values, including 0W, the history graph card seems to ignore all 0W values (one way or another)

ancient sierra
#

Is it a log graph?

limber obsidian
#

No

ancient sierra
#

Can you go to history and download the CSV?

#

for like 6-8pm

limber obsidian
#

There are some values at the end of today because I just turned the plug on to test

ancient sierra
#

Hmm interesting. I can see what you mean.

limber obsidian
#

I'm personally more confused than ever, because shouldn't this be correct?

#

It DID report a 0 correctly

ancient sierra
#

What if you made the graph of one entity only, not B and C

#

does that make a difference?

limber obsidian
#

This is the view I get going from the entity's history and then saying open in history panel

ancient sierra
#

ok, so that looks right

#

now if you add plug B it's wrong?

limber obsidian
#

Here is the same history that I had problems with before, but with all other entities toggled off

#

Add one device, which lets me get a tooltip for a different area

#

Do you think the problem is that when there is no value for a position, it's grabbing the wrong nearby entry to populate the tooltip?

ancient sierra
#

probably yeah

limber obsidian
#

Maybe visually the line is correct, I just cannot tell due to the extreme differences in values

#

I tried zooming in on a section that excludes the time it was on

#

Well actually I tried zooming to just the part where I used it half power but I missed, and this is probably even better

#

Here it just will not say a value, which may not be a bug

ancient sierra
limber obsidian
#

well!

#

I really tried googling it but not knowing the underlying cause made it hard to phrase a query

ancient sierra
#

understandable.

#

Sorry I doubted you ๐Ÿ˜›

limber obsidian
#

well it sounds like I did describe it wrong initially ๐Ÿ˜…

ancient sierra
#

Anyway it'll be fixed in 2025.4 next week.

limber obsidian
#

and I guess it's normal for the chart to skip positions with no value updates

#

Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
