#Recommended Z-Wave USB stick
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Zooz has an EU variant, and from what I understand Zooz stuff the recommendation for zwave these days.
Was think about the Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range S2 USB Stick ZST39 LR as well, reviews look pretty good. While i was happy with my Gen5 Aeotec Stick new Gen7 gets very mixed reviews
Avoid the gen7
If you don't need one now, you could also wait for the new one from Nabu Casa in 2-3 months
Actually my network has been rock solid for several years, but recently started to became flaky, I get a lot of „Failed to send the command after 3 attempts“ and can‘t figure out why, mesh seems perfectly fine. Additionally I still have an old firmware on the stick but updating it is a pain in the a**, I don‘t have a windows machine etc. So I decided to pull the plug;-)
Updated Z-Wave JS in the last few days?
There was a bug where commands would not be retried when there was a collision between Z-Wave JS and the stick.
Yes I did, you have a link to the GitHub issue? Can‘t find anything
fixed in driver version 15.0.3
Z-Wave JS UI v10.1.2
Addon: not yet
If you're ever going to use Zigee too, get the Z-Station by Z-Wave.me. It has BLE, Zigbee, Z-Wave and Thread. Works great for Zigbee and Z-Wave. I haven't tried BLE
Can I use Z-Station with Raspberry Pi 3?
Should be able to. It plugs into a USB. Confirm with Z-Wave.me who make the Z-Station
FWIW, Z-Wave.me is no longer and only support the existing hardware.
I wouldn't expect future firmware updates to be available much longer
Damn... The Z-Station is a nice device hopefully someone will buys the IP or develops firmware for it. I'll ride it until it develops a problem then look for something similar I like the design
What happened to Z-Wave.me?
Joined Trident. https://forum.z-wave.me/viewtopic.php?f=3417&t=36140
How does the Z-Stick 10 pro work from Aeotec? It's dual Zigbee 3.0 Z-Wave 800

Check out last year's blog post on why Z-Wave isn't dead to catch up before we go live: https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2024/05/08/zwave-is-not-dead/
Yeah I'm aware but, I think it's Z-wave only based on FCC cert
Looking at the Trident site, it's not clear what tech they obtained from Z-Wave.me since Trident develops its own RF devices
The employee? 🤷♂️
Everything. Mostly know how
One of /the/ Z-Wave experts
I hope so. If only because you don't need a 5 GB bloated slow as fuck application that requires a login to download a publicly hosted 5 GB SDK before you can do anything.
I'd make a guess the SDK was one of the reasons to acquire Z-Wave.me, since they've been writing firmware the whole time
Understood, but users may prioritize a long history of Zigbee and Z-wave radio technology experience
There's a lot of ill will towards SiLabs due to their recent Z-Wave firmware, IMO
(for those that care at that level)
Anyone done a datasheet spec comparison between Trident and SiLabs? Or better yet, an actual professional RF engineer performance comparison analysis?
In a former life I developed code for very low power FCC part 15 radio devices. If you don't use an RF engineer experience in low power devices you'll be in pay me latter situation. RF design is science and magic
A quick Zigbee data sheet benchmark it looks like Trident is behind Silabs in technology and it looks like it's their first Zigbee and Z-Wave rodeo.
Not sure about Zigbee but they got a bunch of Z-Wave tech from Silabs when starting. The entire point was breaking up the single source situation.
...which is AFAIK why IKEA went with Zigbee instead of Z-Wave for their Smart home stuff in the first place
Been using Z-wave for 15+ years ... never had any issues. I just set it and forget it. Zigbee has always fought me to create a reliable mesh
They base their stuff on the Z-Wave.me SDK, so yes
I guessing Nabu Casa Paulus was wise enough to not go the early adopter route
Truth be told, they were too slow. We had decided on a chip months before they had their first one.
