Just starting with Home asssistant and opted for HA Yellow with a PI CM5. I’m about to buy the Samsung 990 PRO 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, but I found a Forum thread about Samsung SSDs not being compatible with HA:
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/homeassistant-yellow-nvme-compatibility/547618/32
The official HA Yellow documentation page only mentions SSDs for the Pi CM4:
https://yellow.home-assistant.io/faq/#which-ssds-are-supported

Is there an official SSD guide for CM5?

The 970 Evo Plus is good enough, cheaper and compatible.
Haven't heard anything about the 990 Pro, but the 980 Pro had issues.

Is the 1 tb a bit overkill for HA? Should I go with 500gb?

#

The price difference between the 1tb and 500gb is basically negligible

It always depends on what you are doing with it. If you are storing camera for example.

I am storing 30 days of backups (1.6-1.8 GB each), am using a 1 TB SSD and just 8.7% are used.
