#Local license plate recognition

i did look at this briefly myself a few weeks ago but never delved into it too much. there are some opensource libraries and you could snapshot from the camera then send it to the library and pull the result I am sure. but I didn't see anything that is prebuilt for it. I would also love to hear about it if there is something I missed
To be clear Frigate+ only supports license plate detection
License plate recognition is a feature that is built in to the next version of Frigate (0.16), for Frigate+ and non-Frigate+ users
ooo, this makes me happy. is there a timeline on 0.16? i dont really follow frigate dev
No, a beta will come likely within the next couple months
cool, thanks. will keep an eye out for it
@opaque oak you might wanna look into https://github.com/sclaflin/Plate-Minder - I know it's not supported + OpenALPR it's running on is also unsupported (it's been bought out and the open part is no longer 😦 ) however it seems to do what I need, it needs intel quicksync though, however i'm not using my igpu for anything so not a problem for me. It's local and that's most important. Since I will be running it in an isolated network on proxmox any vulnerabilities shouldn't be that big of an issue for me at least. I'll try to set it up near the weekend and 'll post any results if i get around to doing that
Also codeproject.ai seems promising but I cannot comment on it since I don't know f it requires any account or payment
cool, let me know how it goes. this is one of those things that i would kind of like to mess with at some point but i am in no rush.
Yeah also i'm not in for a rush, I setup my gate to open through home assistant recently and it's just something nice to have, however button in carplay also is just fine and also i can open it earlier so it opens before i reach the driveway, will look into that when i have time
