I've recently added Tapo C220 cameras to my HA instance they work very well with Tapo Camera Control integration.

I want to have them only locally to stream to HA and not be visible in Tapo App or connect to the internet.
So i can only view them while I'm on my local network or outside while on the VPN home.

The problem here is if i block them on the router from accessing the WAN they also stop streaming for HA.

Can anyone provide a guide or something similar on how to achieve the cameras to keep the stream local?

Frigate and the RTSP stream should work. I've not tried it when blocking the camera from accessing the internet but unless it fails on boot if it can't call home then it should work

With the internet NOT blocked, go into the app > select the camera > settings top right > advanced settings > camera account

Make a username and password. Go back up one level > Network Settings > note the IP address

#

Then install the frigate addon and configure a camera as rtsp://<IP from above>:554/onvif/stream1 and you should be able to see it in Frigate, and with the Frigate integration (as well as the addon) it will show up in HomeAssistant

Then you can hopefully block the camera from accessing the internet and still be able to use it

I haven't tested it, the limiting factor would be if Tapo has a "If the camera can't contact our servers, don't start the RTSP stream" type option, but hopefully they won't have done that

I think Tapo Camera Control should work as well, but for notifications it requires the cloud access. Not sure what happens when there is no internet access though.

Yeah that would do a similar role

I just wanna be able to maintain the streams local and the câmeras not being able to phone home

#

And I believe that with Tapo Camera Control integration they still need to phone home

You could also just use the Generic Camera integration in HA and connect with rtsp interface to camera

I doubt that. I haven't been able to configure them to frigate either.. I don't know which protocols they require, are they manufacturer specific or do they require internet access

#

Alarms I am pretty sure you need the tapo cloud to get working.

I mean ONVIF allows PTZ over rstp

#

For now I’ll just give them a bad gateway so they don’t phone home and keep looking for more local options

Alarms probably wont work without the server connection but you can set up new motion and person detection alerts etc in frigate if you went that route

PTZ would be available via onvif
