#Do I need IKEA Hub for INSPELNING plugs?

Hi, do I need some IKEA Hub for the INSPELNING power plugs? Either for them to setup or update...
They are finally in stock, so I want to order a couple as alternatives are expensive or rely on 3rd party servers.

The INSPELNING do NOT need 3rd party servers, being online or any authentication, right?
I bought some other plugs in past that relied on Tuya, which required servers... even some bypass required pinging 3rd party servers during setup I think.

Thanks a lot.

You would need a Zigbee dongle. If you use that with HA, you don't need IKEAs hub.

Any recommendations?

#

hmm, I have HA inside VM on my Syno NAS. It seems USB pasthrough can be hit and miss πŸ˜•

I use the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 with the ZHA integration. But there are several good ones available.

I use an HA Yellow, but that is powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute Module.

verbal sandal
#

Green is outdated and basically just RPi

fair narwhal
#

Yellow has a radio integrated, which can be used for Zigbee or Thread.
The Green isn't outdated. It is in fact the younger device.

verbal sandal
#

Prompt delivery? Is there like "AI" of sorts?

#

Hey HA, turn on the lights in PC room?

fair narwhal
#

The Green is the entry level device, the Yellow for a bit more technically advanced users (it needs to be assembled and additional parts have to be sourced to run ).

#

If you use the speech processing of the HA cloud or a limited command set, both are fine.
If you want to build a fully local voice assistant, both are underpowered.

#

Thank you

Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. shksD

Some prefer mini PCs from the N100 or N150 series.
But those are the bare minimum for fully local voice assistants - not necessarily enjoyable.
If you are fine with the HA Cloud and don't have any special needs the HA Green and Yellow aren't bad.

verbal sandal
#

Sorry, first time hearing about HA Cloud

#

Frankly I only need to control my power plugs, see their electricity usage, maybe add some light bulbs in future and Fingerbots.
Then make automatations like - Plug #1 ON and after 2sec make Fingerbot press.

#

If it could trigger automatically when I come home (GPS/phone connected to home WiFi...), that would be awesome.

fair narwhal
#

For something like that, a Green, Yellow or Raspberry Pi would be good enough (with a Zigbee stick maybe).

verbal sandal
#

I just now realized that there is "P" model. It seems to be worse, but I found some threads talking about how the chip in "P" model is better, but then some say that updates resolved compatibility and bugs...

#

So should I cancel the order or keep it?

fair narwhal
#

If you are using ZHA it should be fine. Zigbee2MQTT might have more issues. But I'd keep it.

Sorry to bother you again, @fair narwhal, but does TRΓ…DFRI bulb support Zigbee?

#

It says it needs same hub as those IKEA Smart Plugs, but then it mentions Matter

#

Matter isn't Zigbee, right?

fair narwhal
#

Tradfri bulbs are Zigbee devices, yes.

verbal sandal
#

idk why it mentions it/the IKEA hub works with Matter devices then

#

Thanks

fair narwhal
#

The IKEA hub brings the IKEA devices to other smart home platforms using Matter.

verbal sandal

New IKEA devices might use Thread instead of Zigbee though. The new IKEA TIMMERFLOTTE temperature/humidity sensor will be a Matter over Thread sensor. Older sensors and bulbs are Zigbee. But the packaging shows, if the device uses Zigbee or Matter over Thread.

Last thing, can Windows PC be integrated into HA?
Like if X happens, then Y happens on PC?

If I close my door that has PARASOLL sensor (leaving my home), my PC will lock for example.

fair narwhal
#

There are some programs for Windows, giving some control. #1284966582375813201 can help with finding one.

Can I somehow reset INSPELNING's stats?
I have been playing with it and the total kWh has risen. Now if I wanted to reset, so it's back to 0...?

I tried deleting it, but when repaired it retained the stats.

fair narwhal
#

Maybe you have to factory reset the plug.

#

i have the p model but personal ive had better network success with the ha dongle, so there's probalbly some variance in there, but tldr i woudlnt really worry about it

civic thistle
#

or maybe theres some zigbee command, so you can always try searching the internet

verbal sandal
#

Single-use power meter plugs πŸ˜„

civic thistle
#

The total power draw doesn't really matter at the end of the day though does it? Like except for Pure aesthetics. you're supposed to keep track of that in other ways. The energy graph in home assistant should provide most of the information you would want

verbal sandal
civic thistle
#

like i just said, the energy graph in home assistant πŸ˜…

#

total power consumption really doesnt tell you anything useful

#

you need a timeframe

verbal sandal
#

Ok, then how to reset that graph. Let's say I switch the meter plug to other device and want to start from scratch.

civic thistle
#

you dont reset the graph, the graph measures change over time. power accumulated yesterday wont matter tomorrow

verbal sandal
civic thistle
#

now home assistant does that for you

#

you dont need to reset the meter for this

verbal sandal
#

But what if I wanted total power in a year or two. It will include old total.

civic thistle
#

total power of what?

verbal sandal
#

I don't want to remember at what date I swapped measure devices to be "oh yeah, I need to set start of timefram on 27/3/2025", so I have only my PC and not my oven.

verbal sandal
civic thistle
#

home assistant measures the change in energy. if you set up an energy meter with 500kWh and go back and check on it 2 years later and its now at 2000kWh used, home asistant will report 1500kWh used

verbal sandal
#

That doesnt make sense.

civic thistle
#

why not? its only using the increase of power consumption to make its own measurements

#

its not referencing the value from the sensor outside of when it takes readings

verbal sandal
#

Lets say I have 300 kWh.

I chane the device measure. Home Assistant sill remembers 300 kWh for this meter plug. The HA doesnt know I changed what I am mesuring.

3 years down the line I want to know hoe much I spent on energy for my gaming PC. It will include those 300 kWh that was from different device.

civic thistle
#

you change the entity name

#

it tracks each entity

verbal sandal
#

Okay, I thought it will still be bound by some ID.
So in Z2MQAA just change the name?

#

And can I delete the old entity from history?

civic thistle
#

the "id" its bound by is the entity_id which is able to be changed by the user

#

you can for some entities, someone else had this issue, the actual power consumption of their zigbee plug wasnt controlled by HA so when they deleted statistics data, it just "came back"

#

you can try though

#

dev tools -> statistics -> find the entitiy id you want

#

click this button

#

but again at the end of the day it doesnt really matter since home assistant tracks changes, the actual value of the sensor is just a baseline value to start measuring those changes from

verbal sandal
#

Just my OCD again πŸ˜„
I guess if I change the ID it will not show up in the histroy tab anyway. It will just remember it in the total sum of the house.

civic thistle
#

yes pretty much

verbal sandal
#

I didn't want to have like 50 measure plugs after 3 years, because I fiddled with the IDs too much πŸ˜„
