#Connect to HA green on Mesh Network and Cloud

I have 2 questions about connection to my HA Green on my mobile / laptop (everything except PC)

First is about my home mesh network and IP addresses. I understand that , depending on which router I'm connected to in my house, I can't always access my HA Green due to our IP addresses being on separate parts of the network. My question is about why do I get different IP's depending on which router I'm connected to? Is it because of DCHP? Is the solution to give my mobile device a static IP and if so then does this apply accross all routers.

(For context I'm using Google Nest Wifi with 3 routers with my ISP router used only a bridge)

Second Question is that I am signed up to the nabu cloud, I'm signed in on both HA Green and companion app. I've enabled Home Assistant Cloud as the URL and set my home network to my Wifi and have my internal Connection URL as the IP of the HA green (with the port).
The problem is that, like the problem above, I can only connect when I'm next to a particular router. I can't even connect when I'm out walking the dog (where I presume I'd just be connecting via the cloud?). I can remote in if I log into the cloud and click the URL in their but that's not how I would like it to work.
What am I doing wrong?

do you have multiple routers running multiple dhcp servers running on your network?
when you say "routers" are they actually routers or just AP's?

#

in a home context you should have only ever have 1 dhcp server running on a network

I have this combo Router and Point and another Google Router in bridge mode.

It was just a plug and play situation so I haven't changed any default settings. I just presumed that DCHP was on each router but you can probably tell my networking knowledge is very limited so I don't entirely know what I'm talking about 😅

what isp are you with?

#

given the link, i assume your in the UK, as am i. depending on the isp i may recomend slightly different things

I'm with plusnet they gave me the Plusnet Hub Two which I put into bridge mode and connect via ethernet to one of the Google Routers

#

Yes I'm also in the UK

spring needle
#

cool, so you have it in bridge mode.
and you then have it connected to the google routers WAN port?
and you have no other devices connected to the plusnet hub?

tulip elk
#

Yes connected to the WAN port
I also have a Powerline adaptor into the Hub Two which isn't actually doing anything

spring needle
#

the plusnet hub should be connected to only 1 google router's WAN port. you probably dont need the powerline adaptor but if you do hook it up it should connect the lan port of the google router to the google AP

#

you dont want both connected to the plusnet hub

tulip elk
#

Yep that makes sense I had issues with that configuration but that doesnt matter anymore

spring needle
#

with the new google routers you are creating a new network inside whatever the plusnet hub is doing and you need to ensure the google AP is talking to the inner network

#

how is your green attached to the network?

tulip elk
#

Ethernet to the Google Router

spring needle
#

is the google AP actually meshing with the google router? i am not sure how they work out the box but it may need some configuration?

tulip elk
#

It seems so according to the app

spring needle
#

at this point if you have been messing with stuff i would recomend powering down everything then powering up in sequence to ensure the network is correctly setup and not using any odd settings that you have been messing with
so all off
plusnet on
google router on
google AP on
HA green on

#

then ensure all devices are connecting through the google network and not to anything the plusnet device may or may not be doing. it should be doing nothing when in "bridge" mode but isp routers are painful at thee best of times

tulip elk
#

Thanks I'll try this and come back to you. Gotta do some chores for a bit

#

In the meantime: Any clue about the 2nd question?

spring needle
#

ensure remote access is switched on in thee ha settings then on the app settings under comanion app. you can "add server" then you can add your NC cloud url

#

need to ensure this toggle is on in the top right there

tulip elk
spring needle
#

dam, well you do seem to have everything set up correctly. you have everything set up as dhcp right. you dont have any static ip's on devices?

tulip elk
#

Nope no other settings have been changed from default with the exception of the ISP router being turned into bridge

you could see if theres any security settings in the google router/ap that stop things talking to each other. sometimes its called "peer isolation" or "client isolation" or things like that
