Hello, is it possible to use my home assistant voice as a target for google cast? Ideally i'd like to plug a dedicated speaker into the 3.5mm jack and use it as a better quality speaker than the existing nest speakers - but it doesn't seem that it is designed to work this way

it feels like your chaining things when there may be a more direct option

As far as I'm aware, there are no open source Google Cast target servers. There are for AirPlay.

Music Assistant should be able to play content on it, which may or may not help you.

music assistant will allow you to do that. you just select the VPE as an output and play what you want

#

what is your music source? local files?

youtube, spotify, whatever app i want to use that supports chromecast lol

#

i'm surprised there isnt an open source chromecast client tho. i'll have to look into that

once the PE is in music assistant you can use the spotify connect plugin and play directly to the PE from the spotify app i beleive (havent tried it myself to be fair)

they make interacting with youtube a nightmare to try and make sure 3rd party clients have problems so people dont use them over the normal site/app to skip ads etc...

which is why having the cast protocol be open would make more sense imo.. but alas.

you would think, its probably the music industry crying "omg but piracy" or something
