I am thinking about purchasing an aqara E1 No Netural and was wondering a few things.

Firstly it's only for a set of 6 spotlights, so I was thinking of 1 button switch. Does this button appear in HA so I can control other things, eg smart bulbs and automations?

I assume because it's a relay it'll only be single press and will always toggle the dumb lights?

If I purchased a 2 button switch but only wired in 1 button could I use the other button that's not been wired for other smart actions? Eg other smart bulbs, triggering automations etc?

do you mean T1 instead of E1? it looks like they only support toggle. if you get something like a shelly you get various options for switch modes like detached/switch position/etc.. but they need a neutral

Yeah I need a no neutral unfortunately.. No I mean the E1 which is the actual physical button rather than the T1 which looks more like a shelly relay?

oh right i understand where your coming from now

#

as long as its powered by just the 1 circuit thats hooked up and both relays work (even with 1 being non-connected) then you could definetly automate off the state of the 2nd relay being changed by the switch

#

if the switches and relays are internally separate devices then you may find the other is not powered up though

#

no neutral stuff can sometimes be a bit strange because of the way it works

So basically it kinda depends, maybe or maybe not depending how it powers the second button?

that is my thinking yes, but to be fair I haven't tried it. its just based on a knowledge of the technology.
i suspect there are 3 outcomes

it wont work at all without 2 circuits
it will work fine and do exactly what you want
1 circuit will work as a single switch and the other will be decrative

#

the "wont work at all" i feel is unlikely but not impossible. although you may not get to choose which button is the "real" one depending on how its designed

#

i would say its worth giving it a shot. can always return it and get a single if its a mess i guess

i am sorry i cant be more helpful. maybe someone else can jump in that has tried it. but you might have to "try and find out"

Yeah that's fair, thanks for the help. I'll see if anyone else has maybe tried before I buy and if not I'll give it a go myself soon

maybe even if it doesn't work you can put it somewhere else in the house and get a single one for where you were gunna put it. an excuse for more devices! 🙂
