#CT Clamps on circuits, but also device tracking?

Hi folks.

I have an emporia vue which enables me to track the energy consumption of each circuit in my home. So for example Circuit 7 is sockets in my Living Room, Kitchen and Dining room.

I also have energy monitoring of some devices, eg my TV is plugged into a living room socket and has a smart plug for energy tracking.

My problem: Circuit 7 isn't really an "individual device". If I add Circuit 7 as an individual device, energy use would be counted twice (once on Circuit 7, and then again on the TV smart plug). I have to choose between either knowing how much power my TV uses, or how much power Circuit 7 uses.

I had an idea of creating a template sensor which subtracts all devices on a circuit from the usage of the circuit, however, lots of my devices are energy use (in kwh, all time), while my emporia vue is energy use (in wh, today), so without knowing the "today" values of the device, I can't do it.

Any suggestions on how I might work around this? 🙂

You can use a utility meter to create a today sensor

But maybe you like the Sankey chart

Yeah that one, it's quite popular

We don't currently have support for hierarchical devices natively in Energy but we are currently working on this for improvement.

Just as an update for future searchers, was indeed able to achieve exactly what I wanted with sankey charts, now I can see where I have decent chunks of energy usage, and what circuits they are. Progress in my energy efficiency war 🤣

That's a lot of pool pump

Yea, the reason is because it's actually pool pump, and pool heat pump. Costing me about £3/day, It's a new install though and I've still got some work to do (like insulating the pipes) 😄

but all that solar energy is going into the house, which is kinda the same thing

Not to hijack, but I've been trying to set up sankey charts on mine, and I'm having problems getting the wavey line parts to render. Was there a second part that needed to be installed to get them to show, or do I have some new and exciting issue with my setup?

linux, chrome and firefox, as well as Android companion app

#

so it seems to be an install, not browser thing

#

(and firefox was a clean install, so no cache issues)

could be another HACS frontend integration messing with things

#

that happens

Noted. I'll do more exploring when I get home. I have a second HA instance that has a lot less integrations
