#Migrating ZWave to a new dongle

I am currently using an HUSBZB1 in ZWave only mode. I know that it is outdated and have purchased a Zooz S2 700 to replace it. I have a few simple questions:

  1. Given the differing age of these two, I probably need to repair all devices. Is that true? Would it be possible to backup and recover the client information between the two sticks?
  2. I am using HA's native ZWave integration. If I migrate to ZWaveJS would that streamline the migration at all?
  3. Is there anything else that I need to think about?

In case you are wondering, I have 13 zwave devices of which 5 are Inovelli red switches and 4 are Honeywell T6 Zwave thermostats.

Why would you get a Zooz 700 when the 800 is available?

There is only one Z-Wave integration. There are multiple add-ons. Migrating by NVM backup and restore requires ZUI. The other methods don't matter which you use.

I bought the 700 a while ago and was told at the time that 800 was not ready for prime time. (e.g. it was unstable.) Maybe it is better now? It is too late to exchange it.

#

Is the 800 that much better? I want to minimize upgrades so could purchase one of those.

It's fine, I wouldnt' buy it today, but if you bought it before, no problem.

#

I use the Zooz ZST10 700 myself. The only improvement with the 800 would be some possible RF range increases, better noise floor. Also, Zooz doesn't support the 700 anymore with F/W upgrades.

#

I'm waiting for the Nabu Casa controller to upgrade.

I really only want to migrate once so maybe I should get an 800

#

I decided to upgrade to the 800. I will use the 700 elsewhere.

#

Is that your preferred option?

I would go with 800.

#

But migration from 700 to 800 is pretty trivial with NVM backup & restore.

#

Having an extra controller can be useful sometimes. At least as a backup.

@latent ridge A couple of quick questions about this:

  1. In the video you provided, it showed how you can use the silabs software to transfer the data. My assumption is that you can do this with a stock HUSBZB1. (vs having to update the firmware as described in option 1.) Is that correct?
  2. If I go the exclude, re-include route is this the route process? Power off HA, replace HUSBZB1 with 800. Start HA, exclude/re-include devices. Or should I exclude while the H1 is powered on the HA then do the power-off swap and re-include with 800 after reboot?
