I'm looking for a local only thermostat, something more "raw" than a proprietary piece of hardware. I'm thinking of basically a esp32 with enough solid state relays (I hate the clicking of normal relays) and a good enough temp sensor so that it can run standlone if HA goes down. IE, just maintain a 72 degree temp for instance. Otherwise while HA is up and running, it would be controlling those relays basically.

Something like a zigbee TRV?

What does TRV stand for?

Thermostatic Radiator Valve.

You probably meant a wall kind of thermostat 👀

Sorry, this is for a central air system

yea

I DON'T want any Tuya devices as I don't want to deal with that ecosystem.

It's not a tuya ecosystem if you use zigbee. But there are different manufacturers.

Well I really want it to be able to function on its own as a dumb thermostat if HA goes down, but that might be asking a bit much. Ideally it would have a programmable chip (ESP, arduino compat?) and temp sensor
