dashboard elements sometimes not loading until refresh

i have this quite complex series of cards using auto entities, state switch, and some template sensors. sometimes it works great, other times it stops working and a refresh is needed to get it working again (as seen in the video). what troubleshooting steps and I take to figure out what's happening here?

I wonder if the custom:swipe-card is causing problems. I've used that card before and it always seemed to give me problems.

figured out that this has something to do with the state_switch template option

it seems sometimes it doesnt properly evaluate the template for whatever reason
