If I get some Tapo security cameras, is there a way to host them without the Tapo app so it's private but still be able to access them securely from a different network?

You will need to activate rtsp mode with the app at least once

yeah they'll function fine afterwards. i disabled mine's ability to connect to the outside internet with my firewall and it still works
