I'd like to know if it's possible to grab the image that is sent to your smartphone via a push notification and subsequently display it on your HA instance.
If so, could that be a feature?

That entity takes way too long to update (around a minute to sometimes five), and won't serve as a decent preview

you could perhaps use camera.snapshot action to take your own snapshot from the live feed and display that?

Gave that a shot.
However, snapshots get delayed until after a motion event has concluded.
Thus, defeating the purpose of the snapshot to begin with
