I have an electricity meter that seems to support DSMR and has an RJ-12 (P1 port) connector. Here's what it looks like:

I also have a USB adapter based on the FTDI232 chip.

Could you help me with the pin connection diagram to connect the USB adapter to the meter? I have RJ-12 connectors and all the necessary tools.
Additionally, I would like to integrate it into HomeAssistant (in my case, Yellow). Is it even possible to connect to such a meter?

I found the user manual for this electricity meter https://books.lauren.lv/read/752/pdf

do you really want to take the risk going DIY with this?

#

I would just get a pre-built USB -> P1 from ali, they're like 10 euro

There are also some meters that use the term "P1 Port" and also use rj12 connector, but in reality they use m-bus signalling on pins 3 and 4.

#

these readers are powered from the meter, so no extra power supply (possibly except when doing firmware updates). they are completely local, with a web interface as well as mqtt support where you can select between multiple mqtt formats. one of them is explicitly for home assistant.

For the DSMR P1 Companion standard: https://lectronz.com/products/pow-p1-reader-for-power-meter-with-p1-port

For the "other" P1 variant, and for those in the nordics using RJ45 M-bus connection: https://lectronz.com/products/pow-u-han-port-reader-for-m-bus-meters-esp32

AMS reader for power meters with P1-port

Reader for smart energy meters with M-bus. External power normally not needed.

I use the Pow-U myself

@zenith turret There is no problem to buy an adapter for 10 euros. I am going to do it. But I want to be sure that it will fit and I will be able to use it.
And what are the risks?

I also read that this port can be deactivated by the owner.

@hollow glen And how do I know which one to take?

if it really follows the "DSMR P1 Companion Standard" then the Pow-P1 should be the right one. you could always email the seller ( https://www.amsleser.no/contact-us ) and ask if your meter is known to either work or not work.

i can say that this thing was incredibly easy to set up. just remember that you should upgrade the firmware while you set it up and have it running from usb power. the latest firmware (that i need to upgrade to soon) claims to fix the need for external power while upgrading firmware as well. so this will be my last time hauling a battery bank up to my fuse box to upgrade the reader 😄

if you (like me) are on spot pricing you can even set this little thing up to get spot prices from nordpool daily and compute energy prices for you

this is the local dashboard on the device itself

#

and this is the device in home assistant

#

so it is a bit pricier than a $10 adapter, but it may give you a lot more with less work. i had bought the parts and started writing code to decode my meter when i came upon this 😄

The USB to P1 is plug and play

#

The AliExpress one I mean, not the DIY

#

DSMR integration is pretty solid

I bought such an adapter Domoticz on Raspberry FTDI USB TTL P1. I don't really know what the difference is between the "colors" (in the picture)
I connected it to my meter and to the HA yellow I installed the DSMR Smart Meter add-on. But I don't receive any data. How else can I check?

It should show up in the list of usb devices

#

When you configure the integration

Anyone have an idea?

Do you get data from the meter? Usually port needs to be enabled by the electricity provider

versed elk
#

No, I don't get anything.
I have doubts about the port, I already wrote about it above. So, I need to call the provider.

I just got HomeWizard P1 meter last week. I was able to open the p1 port on the electricity company web portal, took 2 hours it to open. Plugged in that device and HA found it automatically. 100% would recommend.
