This is half a "why" question and half a "Suggest" question.

My office AirGradient monitor just hit 1000ppm CO2. I have not been in there for at least two hours.

  1. Why is my CO2 sensor peaking at a time when I am not in the room?
  2. I'd like to see if there are cheapish (on order of the Switchbot Temp/humidity sensors) CO2 sensors I can put in each room to see what the issue is.

Does anyone have any idea on #1 and any recommendations for #2?

I’ve seen this happen too, and it’s a bit counter-intuitive at first. CO2 doesn’t always peak while you’re actually in the room - there can be a delay.

Things like air moving in from nearby rooms, HVAC cycling, or pressure changes when doors open elsewhere can push “older” air back into the space later on. So a spike showing up after you’ve left doesn’t necessarily mean someone was there at that moment.

One thing that surprised me when I started paying closer attention is how easy it is to notice this stuff late. By the time the number looks high, it’s often been creeping up for a while already.

Does this happen regularly for you, or was this more of a one-off?
