When I open the group it says no matching entities found. If I remove that text and start typing, there is no autocomplete to select my devices. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to have another helper first? I’m trying to group all my mobiles into one notifier for frigate notifications.

AFAIK for a notify group you need notify entities, not mobile devices.
The mobile apps I think don't support notify entities yet.
