IKEA plugs seem so cheap, is there any reason not to choose them? What makes other brands (INNR in this case e.g.) worth the extra money?
I am new to the Zigbee world, both the Sonoff dongle, those will be my first devices, so e.g. mesh routing capabilities will be greatly appreciated to build further

IKEA tretakt plugs just have a switch - innr and most more expensive versions have power and energy monitoring too

#

Up to you if that additional data is worth it. I use innr ones personally

most of the zigbee products in my home are from ikea. they work fine.
i hear from some that firmware updates can be dicey. ikea does not seem to aim for ZHA compatibility, only really cares about compatibility with their own Dirigera hub, and sometimes firmware updates can lead to loss of functionality until someone in the community addresses it.
i dunno! i never bother updating firmware, i've never had functionality issues with them, and i have no complaints about them so YMMV

They look pretty solid tbh

#

Personally I would still avoid them, as I don't really like IKEA and they don't need my money
I'd rather support smaller companies and that's worth the extra £10 I spent on 4 plugs for me

@neat drift that is certainly a fair consideration, will keep it in mind

#

@sudden flare nice to know they work... so 2 good options 🙂

@neat drift you are happy with the power measurements you get from innr?

neat drift

Yup, they've been solid for the past year I've had them

@neat drift thank you... so many brands to choose from and not easy to spot the differences so help is most welcome for a zigbee newbie ;-D

@neat drift maybe one extra question if i may 🙂 The distance here will be approx 10m, 2 inner walls... what is the range of their zigbee connection? will i need a hop in the middle?

That should be fine but.. Depends on the details, it's hard to say.
My longest hop is 6m and through the floor

@neat drift thank you, i know... the big issue with all wireless: signal strength is very hard to predict
