#Alarm/Chime that can be triggered as either a loud alarm or a modest chime

I need some kind of connected chime/alarm speaker.

It needs to be loud enough to use as a smoke detector relay (I have "proper" smoke detectors but not in my garage where I'm adding a zigbee smoke detector) or intruder alarm, but also with the option to trigger one (or ideally more) softer sounds

In an ideal world I'd be able to trigger:

  1. A loud alarm for fire alarms/intruders etc
  2. A fairly loud but not startling doorbell chime for when the doorbell is pressed or a person is detected at the door
  3. Some quieter chimes for things like a door opening, presence detector when a child is out of bed at night etc

Any suggestions? Zigbee would be ideal but I'm willing to accept WiFi. Battery option would be great but wired-only is fine as long as it either has a UK plug or can be compatible with one (eg 12V, USB-C etc)

Hi, I'm not an expert but I think a DIY device with ESPHome will do the work.

I’d rather have something that’s more plug and play, since it will be performing a safety role (albeit only supplementary to my proper smoke detectors)

# peak bloom Hey Mate, Did you find something? I am after a similar alarm.

Hey, yeah I got this one - at the time I figured it would just fill the siren role but it ended up being better than I expected. 3 volume levels and a bunch of doorbell and alarm tones etc mean it can do everything I mentioned above

I’ve been using it for a month and it works great, and 2025.3 gave it full native support via zigbee in HA (previously you had to use a script to set the volume and time etc before triggering it) so that was good timing!

I’ve actually just ordered a second one last night, very pleased with it

No idea what the official brand is but if you search zigbee siren it comes up

There's 3 different brands of this same one that I can see, and they're all tuya.

Did you have to use the Tuya App first or have a Tuya Hub to set this up ? I got one of the wired tuya Alarm (Model: ZA03) and its not getting detected.

I am very new to HA , ( 2 days ). My setup: RPi4+Sonoff USB 3.0 Dongle P.
I was able to setup other door sensors, temp sensors and link them via Zigbee

But this alarm system didnt work.

Nope it just worked, I don’t have a Tuya hub so all my Zigbee stuff is either IKEA or connected directly via dongle. I do use Tuya for some WiFi devices but not Zigbee

I also use Sonoff (the label on the box says Zigbee 3.0 Dongle Plus and ZBDongle-E) and just added it straight in via Zigbee/ZHA

As far as I know the P and E dongles are basically identical for the purposes of this conversation so I'd assume you should be able to just add it the same as me assuming your HomeAssistant install is up to date (if it's on 2025.2 or earlier you might not get the configuration entities available)

Figured it out.

Mine is a plug into power source using USB C version.

And i was testing it out by plugging it into my nice GAN chargers

Before throwing it out I finally tried with one of the shitty old school Apple chargers I have lying around.

And it powered right up and got recognised and paired 😂
