Hi, just joined nabu casa and trying to set up alexa to control generic thermostat helpers in HA. These have friendly names like
"bedroom ui thermostat" (one thermostat per room with controlled heating) and for all but one it works to say to say
"alexa, set front room temperature to 21". However this doesn't work for "dining room", you have to say "alexa, set dining room ui thermostat to 21"

The generic_thermostats are all configured the same way in the HA configuration.yaml and I've not exposed any other items to alexa.

Why should dining room be different? Also is there documentation to explain how the HA skill is processing input - I can find very little.

You might need to rename the device in the Alexa app to get it to drop the "ui"

is it the friendly name that it is listening for? it there a way to set an alias?

It's the name in Alexa which can be different than the name in HA. The only way I know to set an alias is to create a routine that listens for the exact phrase you want to use and controls the device when it is triggered.
