I had homeassistant on my raspberry pi. And it used to work flawlessly. But now it would often be offline and I would have to restart the pi by turning it off and on. Logs doesn't say anything. Tried the full backup on a VM and it works well. What could be the issue?

A dying SD card, a weak power supply... many possibilities.

How do I check if my SD card is dying?

#

Because I changed the power supply to supply the power required by google

All the SD will fail eventually

but ssds are more expensive than sd cards. can i use USB for it?

Yes, but in the long run are cheaper and gives you peace of mind and makes the HA server more reliable. I don't know where you are from. Here in Spain you can get a 128 GB SSD for as low as 15 € in Amazon. This is cheaper than a bigger SD. Look for tutorials to use SSD instead of SD in the RPi before all to see if it suits you 🙂
