#Instead of re-buying a networked Zigbee / Z-Wave coordinator...

Sure. For Z-Wave, install Z-Wave JS UI on the Pi and connect to HA via the Z-Wave integration. Not a Zigbee user, but I presume you'd need to use zigbee2mqtt with the MQTT integration for the same.
Ok, it made sense to but wanted to float it out there before I tried. When I do that, am I going to have to re-set up everything? Because that would double-mega suck.
Not for Z-Wave, but what are you using for Z-Wave now? Which add-on.
Z-Wave JS
You can follow this guide, but instead of using the ZUI add-on, you would install it on the Pi and import the backup the same way. The URL would then change to point to your Pi. https://community.home-assistant.io/t/switching-z-wave-js-addons-with-minimal-downtime-z-wave-js-official-to-z-wave-js-ui-community/409904
Oh, is JS the old and busted, and JS UI the new hotness?
No
Ok. Why move to JS UI instead of sticking with JS?
Unless you are planning to have a second installation of HAOS, then you can't use add-ons outside of it.
I think I missed a step:
"You can follow this guide, but instead of using the ZUI add-on, you would install it on the Pi "
What is "it" in this context?
Z-Wave JS UI
So that's something I can install standalone on the Pi?
Yes
Gotcha. I'm slow but I get there eventually...
Then in HA, I'd just go to the Z-Wave JS integration and point it at the Pi?
There's no Z-Wave JS integration, it's just Z-Wave. But yes, that's all covered in the guide.
You have to follow the steps exactly or it won't work. Unless you don't care about completely wiping all your HA devices.
