#Matter over Thread - Connecting to device already active on Google Nest

I have a Level Lock with the Thread firmware. I had to add it to Google home because the thread radio is very weak - and my Home Assistant server was too far away to enroll it. I do have Google Nest devices all over the house though so should have a decent enough Thread network.

I would like to also add Home Assistant to control the lock.

When I try to add the device, Home Assistant presents this message:

Share from Google Home
Find your device in the Google Home app. Tap the gear icon to open the device settings.
Tap Linked Matter apps and services.
Tap Link apps & services and choose Home Assistant from the list. I can't find Home Assistant on the list
You are redirected to the Home Assistant app. Please follow the instructions.

The problem is, when I complete the first step there is no "Linked Matter apps and services" on the screen that results (screenshots attached).

I am not sure if this is a Google Home issue (maybe the option moved?) - or a Home Assistant issue (incorrect description) - or what the issue is.

Has anyone done this or have the answer?

Thank you!

should be in the device info menu

Its not. That menu shows me the device name (and let's me change it) and the room (also lets me change it). There is a 'Technical Information' section that tells me that it's a Matter device, the manufacturer and the native device name.

Additionally, the page has three dots for a popup menu - and this menu contains 'Help' and 'Feedback'.

Nothing else.

There appears to be nowhere to request the pairing code from Google home to then connect it to Home Assistant.

is there not a button labelled "[][] Link apps & services" within the Linked Matter apps & services menu?

No - there is not.

I also just made a discovery. To confirm - I am using Android. It's missing on Android. The menu option appears to be there on the IOS Google Home app. So - this is a feature that is only present on IOS it seems. 😦

I really don't understand how you're missing this. Multi-admin sharing is a key feature of Matter and I'm looking at the damn menu on my android phone right now. You might want to uninstall Google Home, purge your Google Play Services data, and try reinstalling

#

Bearing in mind clearing Google Play Services data will sign you out of Google play and reset your Google pay wallet

Ok how about this. Try going through the matter devices page in your android settings

Ahh - going thru the matter devices page in Android settings - the option is there! Thank you for pointing this out.

It's a shame the instructions within Home Assistant - and indeed on Googles main support page say to use the other method.

I am really not into resetting my Wallet.
