My google Nest Hub has been showing my lovelace dashboard day in and day out for the past month, and now, all of a sudden it has started to dismiss the cast and show me picture frame after 1 minute or there about.
The cast is still active, i can swipe to access it again, but another minute or so passes and it's picture time again.
Since the cast appears to still be active, my automations isn't able to force it back to displaying the lovelace dashboard again either.

Does any of you have any similar experience and or sollutions other than throwing it as far as i am humanly able to?
As i said, the automations still run and the nest hub reports as playing.

Come to think of it, this behavior started after a homeassistant update that rolled out after new years, might be coincidental.

I found a workaround, added a clock with a second-counter that keeps the screen refreshed every second, seems to keep the cast live.
I really don't want a clock there, but if that's what i have to do..

If anyone else experience the same issue as me, this workaround seem to keep the screen live for way longer. Tho it will eventually revert to screensaver after a few hours.
I don't thing homeassistant manages to keep the cast live the same way it did before after recent updates to the core.

Need to add this info:
The cast often stops on the HA screen with the heart, showing "not connected" at the bottom.
The wifi is rock solid, and this further convinces the me issue is caused by HA core 2025.1.X update

I'm trying to reproduce it but so far the view I'm casting to the hub is remaining

#

over ten minutes now and the view is still there

i cast a dashboard to the chromecast in my living room tv whenever it has been idle for some time.

after 2025 updates i see that my dashboard has white background even if i have a dark theme.

i have also had some instability where the dashboard has crashed. sometimes on its own and 2 times my whole pi has frozen. before these updates it has been rock solid since the pi 4 was lauched.

Whenever there are issues with casting dashboards, check with default theme

This happens after some time casting.

To me that sure looks like the casting failed on homeassistant, but it's still live on my Samsung tablet.

Also, this is with the stock background.

if this is via chromecast then it could also be internet connectivity issues.

It's not, the wifi is flawless. It was working perfectly until HASS 2025.1.x updates started rolling out. and i can't seem to find a way to roll back either, making the whole expensive nest-hub a useless brick.

Same software as i have, so it can't be the firmware itself, must something in my setup, either hass, integrations or configurations.
I'll start from scratch. 🙂

Removed everything google from my hass, then set up a new 2.4ghz wifi network from a separate accesspoint just to check that.
Still behaves the same.
I'm at a loss. Cast integration does not read paused or idle state of the nest-hub and the dashboard isn't being kept alive.
Even playing a gif and a digital clock with seconds to try to keep the dashboard active doesn't help either.
