#Coral vs new CPU?

Hi there, I am weighing up buying a Coral for my server (4790k!), or upgrading it to something newer.

The coral seems great, but it costs £80. Instead I could put that money towards getting something like a second hand 12500, mobo and RAM (~£200).

To go with this I think I've ready a few times now that the latest Intel cpus (or perhaps more so iGPUs) are very effective for Frigate.

Does anyone have any opinion on this?

Also, for info, I only have 2 Reolink CX410's right now. I will soon be adding a doorbell cam and perhaps in the future a couple more CX410s, so will never have over say 7 cameras.

I'd give OpenVino a try before doing anything else.

Just with my 4790K to start with?

Yes. Also note that a GPU and a Coral do different things.

oh really? thought they could both be used for detection

#

and with the new Intel cpus they are efficient enough that they perform similarly to a Coral in terms of power usage / detection

#

(this is what I read, not sure how true it is)

AFAIK the GPU is only used for decoding. Hmm. It seems like OpenVino needs 6th gen.

Frigate supports many GPUs for object detection and decoding

I didn't say otherwise.

the new info banner at the top tries to make it clear what is supported
