I recently installed HA (macbook with a debian virtual machine), but I'm not sure how to begin coding with it because I'm still a bit confused at file setup and where certain files are located. Visuals would be appreciated because I think some online information was under different UIs. Can anyone give me some advice?

Easiest is to set up a devcontainer https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/development_environment. Also, select the „Developer“ role in id:customize then you can ask questions in #1257019582112334014 which is better suited for dev questions
