Is there any bigger reason why a better complete 3d visualization of a floorplan is not yet mainstream in HA? I'm talking about moving around, rotating, scaling a 3d model of your home/space in the same way you would do in Sims or similar games.

I've seen just this project:
https://github.com/adizanni/floor3d-card/tree/master

And this older relatively barebones implementation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee7i3_EWyjk

Is there just no "want" for this type of visualization?
The technology to add the functionality isn't that super complex (talking as a former game dev) and I would gladly make something of the sort a public project if people like or want it.

I have some more information about proper large scale fully interactive digital twins but it's work related and I'd probably have to ask a mod if it's okay to get a greenlight.

I don't see the point. Why would you want to control your house from a virtual repesentation of the same house? That has very little benefit over walking there and pressing a button, and the downside of eventual muscle atrophy. Smart Home is about practicality for most people. What you want there is akin to the 3d file browser they show in Jurassic Park, which really was a thing on Irix. What it wasn't is practical. A classic solution looking for a problem. If I am any judge, that's going to remain a fun gimmick.

Huh, i do wonder then what the point of HA is if you are worried about muscle atrophy, seems a bit ironic 😄

Anyways, the point was ease of use contextually and visually (the people like the github repo i added for example)

2d floorplan dashboards are a thing and quite popular (from my experience with people that integrated HA into their houses) and the discussion often pivoted to having access to more views and interactivity
