#fixing lengthy latency on yellow

Hi, I'm looking for guidance any Yellow users may have on overcoming lengthy latency issues they may have experienced in setting up their Yellow.

My PoE Yellow exhibits multi-second latency in most functionality, which I've been unable to find the cause of. The performance of the device was so degraded I effectively had to bin it and fall back on my trusty legacy Rpi4 4G w USB attached 32G SSD, which exhibits negligible latency.

By way of background, I received my PoE Yellow in the first batch released in that format, sans CM4108032, which I purchased and installed separately. Following the initial loading of HA, rather than simply porting over my existing Rpi4 HA configuration, I opted to add integrations onto the Yellow progressively to ease troubleshooting.

I did not get far beyond setting up the MQTT and Tasmota add-ons, and a few HACS plug-ins before encountering the dire latency issues, as mentioned.

I’ve recently considered pulling it out of the junk box given the availability of the new CM5 board, but when viewing the HA announcement on compatibility at HA Yellow CM5 Support I noted their repeated pronouncements that the CM4 is, or should be, more than enough for most users. So, I’ve begun scanning these forums for guidance as to whether others have experienced this performance latency issue with Yellow and, if they had, how they may have managed to rectify it.

Any suggestions on how to monitor the CPU processes on the device would also be appreciated.

I have the same setup. Home Assistant Yellow PoE and CM4108032. No issues here. Processor usage is between 3 to 6% and 1,5GB of 8GB. What’s your processor usage?

#

I have round about 30 integrations (incl. HACS), 250 devices, 1600 entities, 50 helpers and 80 automations.

#

Is everything really assembled correctly? Have you dismantled and reassembled the CM4 as a test?

#

Are the thermal pads installed correctly?

Thanks. Maybe I should start again from scratch. I recall having considerable difficulty with the process on my initial attempt. It did not follow the steps in the online set-up guide, and the LED flashing sequences definitely did not indicate that everything was as shown.

I can't recall how I eventually bypassed the problem, other than it was not straightforward.
