#Unable to use Humidity sensor with derivative sensor

Hello,

I have started having an issue as of the 2025 update where I am no longer able to create a derivative sensor that uses A humidity sensor as the input sensor. It states that “On saving the derivative sensor with a humidity sensor as the input it throws the following error

‘’’value must be one of ['sensor.800_series_long_range_usb_controller_status', 'sensor.air_quality_monitor_indoor_air_quality', 'sensor.air_quality_monitor_volatile_organic_compounds', 'sensor.apollo_location', 'sensor.attic_t_h_battery_type', 'sensor.b_button_battery_type', ‘’’

Etc so forth, but never lists any of the temperature or humidity sensors as an option.

I was previously using this as a sensor for managing the bathroom humidity with an exhaust fan.

Unable to use Humidity sensor with derivative sensor

Anyone have thoughts here?

What are your humidity/temperature sensors - can you copy what they show on the state explorer?

#

I just set it up for mine and it works fine

pliant palm
#

they are all Aqara t/h Sensors connected via matter integration

#

the input field for entity has removed the entites that re humidity or temp etc

urban aspen
#

Well that ruins my best guess of them somehow losing a tag that gets them registered by the derivative helper select screen

pliant palm
#

and if i "save" it with an entity that is "correct" but not in the listed options it takes a while and then always is 0

#

I apreceate you trying to help here... its been an onging problem for me for a minute

urban aspen
#

Can you use those sensors in templates? e.g. just {{ states('sensor....') }} in the template dev window

pliant palm
#

as in inside a different template sensor entity?

urban aspen
#

nah, under dev tools there's a template test window

#

easiest place to check

pliant palm
#

ah yes sorry - mis read your comment

#

one sec let me check

#

yeah they work fine there

#

its weirdly just like the derivative sensor wont accept entities that have a decimal place (float?)

urban aspen
#

nope, it has no issues with mine

#

something weird is going on

pliant palm
#

agreed - i just dont know where else to look for the problem

urban aspen
#

oh

#

have you tried making a new one rather than editing an existing one?

pliant palm
#

hmm

#

i havent

#

welp... That makes me feel dumb.

#

works fine on a new entity helper,

#

feels like a bug that you cant change an existing one though no?

urban aspen
#

the only thing I can find in the code that would make it not show is if it thinks the units have changed for some reason

#

as for why it thinks the units have changed.. i dunno

pliant palm
#

this only happened after i had a senor die, same type and connection etc, it just happened that the replacement came in just after i upgraded to the 2025 HAOS

#

i mean its working now so there's that. but just generally strange behavior.

#

Thank you so much for workking through it with me

urban aspen
#

np, have a good one

pliant palm
#

Can i buy you a beer or something?

#

Ill PM ya

urban aspen
#

nah, it's fine

pliant palm
#

apreceate you man
