#How do I make my hallway circuit smart?

Problem:
Wife and kids always forget to turn of the lights in the hallway. As you can see in the wiring diagram, it works with a push button that activates a relay.
My wife will not allow that her way of working will be changed meaning visually everything needs to be the same. So if she comes in the hallway, she want to push the same button. There are 3 pushbuttons.

What I want:
I want to see in HA if the lights are still on, if so check if there is a person in the hallway (small dog is at night and when we are not home in the hallway). If there is no one in the hallway, turn off the lights after 5 min.
What hardware would you recommend? I have a Zigbee dongle on the second floor. At this moment, there is no coverage on the ground floor (yet). I was thinking to get some sockets on the first floor to expand the network to the ground floor.

Why are you using a relay, is it so you can have three buttons for the same light and avoid the hassle of a three-way wiring setup for the light? If the setup was simpler, I would have advised a basic wifi relay from Sonoff for a few pounds but looking at what you have I can't help but think a smart bulb with three battery powered wireless smart buttons might be the easy route for you.
